The Master of Fine Arts in Acting program at UCLA's School of Theater, Film and Television is a comprehensive three-year course of study that prepares actors to work professionally in all mediums, genres and styles of performance.
Designed to be eclectic, the program encourages each actor to discover methods of working best suited to his or her individual talents. The essence of this training is achieved organically through classroom study, studio work and autobiographical exercises in a small, highly individualized and collaborative setting.
At UCLA, practical experience is paramount. Students complete a variety of performance projects, including a full repertory season, a touring company production, and the opportunity to act in a professionally written and directed film. Produced by the Theater department, this film is a unique aspect of UCLA's program, which provides students with practical camera experience both in a studio and on location.
With excellence being the minimum standard for success in the field, UCLA's MFA program in Acting draws on the vast resources of Los Angeles and its accomplished professional faculty to offer a rigorous course of study to a select body of students. The program is taught by permanent faculty, adjunct professors and professional actors and directors. Students are chosen from candidates who have passed an audition by showing promise, talent and dedication for the work. The program is full-time and the students are fully committed to all classes, workshops and performance projects.
The program is rigorous, intensive and demanding. Consistent progress and achievement are required of our students, whose principle aim is to become professional actors. The aim of the program is to explore their use of self, their imagination, body and voice and to develop their skills in reading and responding to text---which is why both text analysis and theatre history are required components of the training. The overall design is based on how the actor acquires a process, or a way of working. And of course this is largely personal: each actor takes what he or she can.
The essential spirit of the UCLA acting program is based on eclecticism, various points of view and multiplicity of experience. We do not profess to be disciples of any one method or system of acting. Each actor learns how to become their own best teacher, a skill that will become increasingly valuable as their career evolves.
New York Film Academy
This two year accelerated degree program runs on an eight-month calendar, divided into four 16-week semesters. Each of the 16-week semesters requires intensive time demands and a complete commitment on the part of the student. A standard week of study involves additional time required in the evenings and on weekends for classes, rehearsals, and shoots.

The best way to learn how to act in films is to actually act in films. Our students begin acting in front of the camera from the first week of the program. Every week, students get the opportunity to practice the techniques and skills they have gained in class to exercises that are shot and reviewed. Professional FacultyOur instructors are working veterans of Hollywood and independent film, Broadway and Off-Broadway. Film Productions Many of our programs feature the production of short films or scenes that are created by and star our acting students. These are shot and edited together and may be used for students' own reels.Filmmaking Resources Our Acting for Film and Filmmaking programs work hand-in-hand, providing all of our students with resources such as film equipment, live film shoots, and a network of filmmakers, screenwriters, producers, and editors that is developed before entering the real world. Reel MaterialsWe provide all of our students with shot and edited materials that are suitable to put on an actor's reel.
SEMESTER ONE OVERVIEWThe first semester concentrates on building a foundation in the craft of acting, using training techniques rooted in the theater but applicable to screen acting. Students participate in a broad array of core classes that introduce them to finding the actor within, while simultaneously training their instrument to do the kind of technical, emotional, and physical work necessary for film acting. Since we believe that film actors also benefit immeasurably from working in front of a live audience, in addition to work in front of the camera, training in the first semester builds towards a live performance. What are the basic requirements for becoming a teacher in Texas?
You must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Texas institutions do not offer a degree in education. Every teacher must have an academic major, as well as teacher training courses. The only exemption from the degree requirement is for individuals seeking Career and Technology certification to teach certain courses, such as welding or computer-aided drafting.
You must complete teacher training through an approved program. These programs are offered through colleges and universities, school districts, regional service centers, community colleges, and other entities.
You must successfully complete the appropriate teacher certification tests for the subject and grade level you wish to teach. For a list of the certification tests and information on which tests are required, click here.

Oklahoma City University invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor- Acting/Voice.The assistant professor-acting/voice will join the performance faculty in the School of Theatre at Oklahoma City University. The school administers two performance degrees, a BFA in acting and a BA in theatre performance, in a program that is gaining a national reputation and growing toward a steady population of approximately 220 majors. This tenure-track position functions as part of the professional artistic community focused on teaching lower and upper division vocal production for the actor, as well as other upper-division acting classes as needed. Successful applicants will typically coach three to six productions per year. Directing may be a possibility, as well.
